Keeping your dog flea, tick, and even mosquito free this summer
Although we’re well into summer now, if you aren’t into using chemical-based flea and tick control from the vet, which are applied from May to October in New Brunswick, it’s never too late to start helping your dog repel mosquitoes, fleas and ticks using our line of natural products.
Natural repellents do exactly that — they work by using the scent of plant oils to deter biting insects like fleas, ticks, and in some cases, mosquitoes from landing and therefore biting. We carry a large number of natural products that we stand behind 100%.
T.I.X. MIX’s ingredients include almond sweet oil, eucalyptus, geranium, lemon, lemon grass, lavender, myrrh, palmarosa, peppermint, and tea tree. T.I.X. MIX works by using the scent of plant oils, which is a natural repellent to biting insects.
- Use on a monthly basis for year round deterrent of fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and blackflies
- Apply every 2 weeks just prior to and during insect season
- You can also safely double or triple the dose on the bottle
- T.I.X. MIX is applied at the base of the neck, middle of spine, and base of tail
- Make sure the T.I.X. MIX is applied directly to the skin, rubbing it in with your hands if necessary
- Do not bathe or let your dog swim for 24 hours after application to allow for absorption of T.I.X. MIX
- Also safe for use by humans and it works great!
FleeZeez Holistic Blend supplement is an all natural liquid, which rids your dog (or cat) of fleas by making them a non-beneficial host.
When added to your dog’s drinking water or food it is ingested and works internally. When it enters the bloodstream, it produces an enzyme which shields the protein the female needs to lay eggs. Not able to find what she is looking for she exits the animal in search of another host to feed on. If the female flea does not draw blood every 20 to 24 hours she will die. The male doesn’t bite, and having nothing to fertilize leaves the animal also. This breaks the reproductive cycle. Works on all blood feeders.
As an added bonus, FeeZeez includes over 200 vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, making it a superfood supplement to keep your dog healthy. It also conditions the fur and skin. Ingredients include vinegar, garlic, citrus and herbs. Even fussy cats and dogs seem to like the taste!
OregaPet Bed & Body Spray
OregaPet has a line of products that are great for both internal and external use. For biting insects, such fleas, ticks, blackflies, mosquitoes, mites, lice, ringworm, and chiggers, apply the spray to the dog’s bed and whole body daily for 21 days to get the complete cycle of the insect. Treat all pets. Avoid spraying near eyes. You can use your hands, or spray into a disposable non-latex glove or cloth to apply to your dog’s body, face, and head.
Isle of Dogs Flea & Tick Spray
If you prefer something closer in strength to products you get from the vet, we also carry Isle of Dogs Flea & Tick Spray, wipes, and shampoo.
Food grade diatomaceous earth (DE) is an inexpensive (you could say dirt cheap!) way to control fleas, ticks, lice, and other pests. It is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder and observed through a microscope, the particles resemble bits of broken glass.
DE is deadly to any crawling insect, yet completely harmless to animals. The microscopically sharp edges of DE contact the insect or parasite, and pierce their protective coating, so they soon dehydrate and die. The larvae is affected in the same way.
DE can also eliminate internal parasites like roundworms, whipworms, pinworms, and hookworms within seven days of being fed daily. To be most effective, Diatomaceous Earth should be fed for at least 30 days, to catch all newly hatching eggs or the cycling of the worms through the lungs and back to the stomach.
Simply rub your dog with DE, along with dusting any place he sleeps. Don’t forget to include baseboards and surrounding carpeted areas. After 2 days, vacuum and re-apply. Make sure you throw out dump out the vacuum bag as fleas can live inside for some time.
Here’s hoping for a tick-free, flea-free, and mozzie-free August in New Brunswick!
